Well 2012 was a year full of many ups and downs. I don't think I can recall a more bi-polar year, and it just seemed to drag on. I'm am looking forward to 2013, and most of all the vodka that I'm going to be drinking tonight to ring in the new year! Lets all go into this new year with a positive outlook, and if you're not positive then I'll fucking beat it into you! LOL Just kidding but I hope all my friends on here have a safe and happy new years eve where ever you may be!

This year has just been relentless with the bullshit…

So real quick I want to thank everybody for their well wishes after the theater incident. My brother is doing much better. All my DA peeps were there for me and my family and that holds a special place in my heart believe me!

I'm going to frame the inked lineart of this piece to be auctioned off for an benefit that local artists are doing for the theater shooting. Well at 12:40 am I get a call from my brother who was at the Dark Knight Rises premiere at the Century 16 theater in Aurora Colorado and somebody threw a gas grenade into the theater and opened fire on the crowd of movie goers during the movie. My brother got out safely, but from the reports coming in a lot of people didn't. I'm glad my brother got out safe but I can't imagine what others who had family members there might be going through right now. I don't really know what else to say, other than who ever was involved with this attack is a complete fucking coward.

Hey gang I was just letting you know that I will be sharing an booth with the amazingly talented Jolyon at Denver Comic Con June 15th through June 17th. We are also in the Squidworks area of the booths so I should give them a shout out as well. I'm excited as it's the first big comic con in Denver so that is exciting to be a part of I will also have prints of my paintings and my first printed book of some of my black & white tone arts in an 7 ½ " x 5 ½"  size booklet and a jumbo 11" x 8 ½" size for sale!  I even left a blank page that I will do an unique sketch on as well, so I will be drawing sketches in the books up until the con. Also I will have a few left blank so that I can take requests on as well, so if there was anything you ever wanted to see sketched up in my style for a super cheap price, now's the time to take advantage of that. If you're in the area you should totally check out the con!

So I have 8 days left to get my graphic novel LENZ backed on Kickstarter.com. The project is over 30% funded so I'm doing my best to get the word out myself. I could use all the help I can get in terms of pledges and getting the word out. Hell If I could find 2000 people to pledge $1, then that's $2000! Every little bit helps. So this this last Saturday was about the weirdest night of my life. Some friends and I went to Casa Bonita which was a surreal experience in itself and what I would have written this journal entry about if not for the events that happened afterwards. So after we left Casa Bonita (that place is the fucking worst BTW), Joel, his wife Gabi and I get into their car and jump on to I-25 heading back to Aurora. Now it's 5 lanes of 70mph+ traffic and it's busy as shit. We notice this girl, maybe in her early 20's running along the shoulder of the highway…before we can ask WTF?  She literally runs in front of our car about 20 yards in front of us! We come to a screeching halt  to not hit her . She doesn't even skip a beat and then runs into the next lane and almost gets hit by another car. She then starts zig zagging back and fourth so we try to drive past her and she then makes b-line to run back in front of us so we slam on the breaks again, this time we get rear ended by a car behind us. She then runs to the farthest left lane and gets leveled by a 4 door blue Toyota Tundra that was going at least 70 mph! Worst fucking thing I have ever seen in my life, by far! It hit her so hard, that it literally knocked her out of her shoes. She then somehow got up and started yelling something and then collapsed. By then we were on the phone to the police and somehow people made a barricade so that traffic didn't run over her or the people who were trying to help her until the police and ambulance arrived. I don't know how there wasn't a 50 car pile up so that I guess was a small miracle in itself. The way that situation was going it could have been much, much worse! We had to fill out statements and such for the next hour and a half and surprisingly our car and two others were the only other collisions that happened. I don't know if the girl lived or not because I, nor Joel and Gabi have been able to find any information on it. All we could find was that the night of I-25 was closed down after the accident. Just strange.

Anyhow on a lighter note I guess it's Street Fighter's 25th anniversary so I think I'm going to start doing some fan art for it. I think I want to do every Street Fighter character that they have ever created since the original Streetfighter through Super Street Fighter IV (I'm not sure I'll do the characters from EX…we'll see how I feel! Lol). Should be fun!

As for my regular peeps on Deviant Art sorry I have been M.I.A. recently. I wanted all new pieces to debut at the show so I've been busy painting. I'll have at least 5 new paintings so that will be good. but I want to wait till after the show before I post them. So my homies on Deviant Art will have to wait a bit but you all can hang for a bit...right?

Well what can I say? 2011 has been an interesting year for a lot of reasons I suppose. I'm pretty sure I won't be able to touch on all of what happened in this journal so I'm not going to try, but there are for sure some things that stick out. I did my first comic convention as a guest creator at Denver Comic Fest an met amazing artists and just had a friggen blast so that is probably the most interesting experience for me. I have to thank for letting me know about the show and sharing the table. We were so jam packed together it was like a Wookie and a Sasquatch crammed into Fiat mini. Actually sound like a great tv show!  Hopefully I get to do another one sometime in the near future.

Mainly I've had a weird feeling all year as it has finally come up on the 10 year mark since I graduated from Beloit College on December 19th 2001. I got what I fondly refer to as a "bonus" semester as I didn't graduate in the spring of 2001 like I was supposed to. I was mad at the time, but that last semester was a sublime entry in the time fog of my mind. I took classes like "Philosophy of Art" and  "Film Noir", you know shit that will never help you in real life but is a blast to learn. That last semester was
nothing short of fantastic before I was kicked out into the waist land of suck that I have roamed for these last 10 years. Not that this last 10 years haven't had it's moments, but nothing will compare to those 4 and a half years I spent in the Beloit Bubble. When ever I talk to my college friends it's like we haven skipped a beat, and you feel like you are going to see them just down the hall, even thought I haven't seen some of them for 10 years now.

In some respects I guess I've been waiting for this landmark. I point to gage what I have done and what I now want to do.  I think for the most part I have been trying to cultivate and consume ideas, techniques, and styles in order to define my own style. Mainly I've been trying to figure out what I want to do with my work. After notions from friends and family or other perceived pressures on what to do with my work I have come to a conclusion. I need to do what I want to do with my work. Not as profound a statement as one might hope to reach in 10 years but it's the one that works for me, or at the very least it the notion I have. An art mercenary with services that are available for hire at my discretion…yeah I like the ring to that.


Here is to 2012. I'm kicking off the year with an art show on Feb. 2nd for Denver Raw Artists. I'm excited for that as I haven't been in a show in literally 10 years. Should be a good way to kick things off. If you are in the Denver area and want to go just let me know.

Hey 's book STACEYTRON: Mass Perceptron  is out and everybody should go pick up a copy.  Not only is it full of great art and artists but it also has a work by yours truly in it as well…Hey I gotta toot my own horn once in a while since no one else is going to do it!

If any of you out there ever watched 's work you are well aware of her emergence, spreading her brand of style and philosophy, and subsequent disappearance from the scene, only to suddenly re-emerge for a last update of the completion of her book and fair wells before her swan song into oblivion. Although the mystery of it all is exquisitely spectacular, I find myself hoping that phenomenon like that transpires again soon…or that there is a second book, it would be fun to revisit that character again At any rate we all know that Dtron will always hold down the mutha fucking fort so worry not folks I won't ever leave ya. It might be my only talent

As you may have noticed I haven't had much posted in the summer months here. It's been kind of a perfect storm of family and friends events. Obligations combined with the normal slowing down of my commission work during the summer. I guess I'm just on a mini break and am ready to refocus my mind body and soul in the way I do my work.

Just felt like sharing that

I hope you all treated your to a good day today. My mother has always been supportive of my and especially my art so I can never thank her enough for that but at least there is one day a year that one can try. If you haven't done so call your mom today! Nuff said!

So of course everybody knows how bad the situation is in Japan and I know that my and many other’s hearts go out to them. When I found out it happened I was frantic trying to contact my friends who are from there on Facebook and such. Thank goodness all of them have gotten back to me and are fine, but one in particular made me laugh my ass off. I sent Aki a note on face book and it took two or three days before he got back to me, but when he did he was giving me shit for not talking to him for a while. He literally says “so there has to be a disaster before you drop me a line you ass?” I thought it was funny

But seriously if you can do something for Japan than do it because we are not out of the woods yet.

On a lighter note I’m gearing up for Denver’s comic fest which I’m doing a table with who is a kick ass artist so if you don't watch him go check out his page.  I will be cranking out a lot of work this month in preparation. For those of you who like my work I guess that’s a good thing. Maybe?  Either way it’s my first time being at a con as an artist so at the very least it should be interesting.

So I was flipping though my deviant works on Thursday and I come across something that looks a little familiar from a great artist I follow I click on it and am surprised to see what is my first Fan Art of one of my characters!!! I’m just simply stoked! And a little jealous! I love the sultry expression he gave her. Gives the work real life of it's own. Must be because you’re an animator Derrick! Maybe I can talk him into doing an animation sometime..... Thanks bro this really made my week!
