Been a while since I've done an journal so I figured it was about due. Gonna be at Denver Comic Con again this upcoming June. I kind of don't want to do it because I'm getting the vibe that they want to push independent comic artists out for more industry guys but we'll see how it goes. i guess it might just be me but it seems like comic cons are just terrible places for comic artists. After the last couple of years of doing them it just feels like the cons aren't about comic at all, which is fine but in my mind just don't call it a comic convention.

Been working on a lot of half-tone art the last couple of months which has been fun. Here are some of the pieces if you missed them.

Planning on doing a ton more half-tone work but I'm itching to do some watercolors and digital coloring so look out for that on the horizon.

Also I'm planning on changing my pricing tier for commissions. My prices are going to be rising slightly to better compensate for my time and skill so if anybody want a commission at the prices that I have now is time to contact me because when I post the new prices it will be that new pricing tier for a while.

My PS3 finally died completely. It lasted 8 years and then got the YLOD. I was able to get it fixed and it lasted 3 months, long enough to get playstation plus and get my saves off the machine. Guess it's PS4 time! xD

Hope all is well out in DA land
I've been getting a lot of random messages about commissions, so I figured it would help to make a clear guide as to how I do commissions.

Commission rates
Watercolor 8¼" X 11¼" $100
Watercolor 11" X 17" $130
Inked Line-art $45
Inked Line-art with Half-tones $65

Well I haven't done a journal in a while as I was super busy getting ready for Denver Comic Con. So busy in fact that I didn't really promote that I was going to be there on DA so sorry if my Colorado peeps on DA missed out on meeting up at that shit. I couldn't possibly recount all of the craziness that happened at DCC, but I guess long story short is that it was awesome and I did well at it! I almost sold all of my first short story comic "Owl Hunt" and my 2nd half-tone art book, so BOOSH and or KAKOW to that! XD

Other than that I don't have too much to update. I've basically been stockpiling up a bunch of art supplies so I can start to crank out a lot more work. Um....It's starting to get hot. My birthday is coming up on the 20th. I still love tacos. That's about all I can think of.

Actually, quick update! It was awesome to see all of my good friends and fantastic artistic talent at DCC with the likes of :iconjeffherndraw: :iconjefflafferty: :iconkevingentilcore: :iconbbedlam: :iconthepenciler: :iconjoshdivine: :iconspicypeanut: :iconjolyonyates: :iconspacefriend-krunk: :iconbluedrink: :iconleilasedai::iconruswooton: plus meeting new artist friend :iconkaelacroftart:

Lets all go into this new year with a positive outlook, and if you're not positive then I'll fucking beat it into you! LOL Just kidding but I hope all my friends on here have a safe and happy new years eve where ever you may be!

This year has just been relentless with the bullshit…
So real quick I want to thank everybody for their well wishes after the theater incident. My brother is doing much better. All my DA peeps were there for me and my family and that holds a special place in my heart believe me!

I'm going to frame the inked lineart of this piece C A T W O M A N by Dtronaustin to be auctioned off for an benefit that local artists are doing for the theater shooting. Here is the info for the event on Face Book www.facebook.com/events/382522… If you're in Denver and want to get some great art and help out a great cause then you should head down on August 24th

Also my friend Jason Tucker is doing a Kickstarter for his comic project "The Way (Of Yahweh) and it's a really neat concept so check it out! You can pledge or just spread the word :w00t!: Jasons kickstarter page www.kickstarter.com/projects/1…

Well at 12:40 am I get a call from my brother who was at the Dark Knight Rises premiere at the Century 16 theater in Aurora Colorado and somebody threw a gas grenade into the theater and opened fire on the crowd of movie goers during the movie. My brother got out safely, but from the reports coming in a lot of people didn't. I'm glad my brother got out safe but I can't imagine what others who had family members there might be going through right now. I don't really know what else to say, other than who ever was involved with this attack is a complete fucking coward.

Hey gang I was just letting you know that I will be sharing an booth with the amazingly talented Jolyon :iconjolyonyates: at Denver Comic Con June 15th through June 17th. We are also in the Squidworks area of the booths so I should give them a shout out as well. I'm excited as it's the first big comic con in Denver so that is exciting to be a part of :w00t!: I will also have prints of my paintings and my first printed book of some of my black & white tone arts in an 7 ½ " x 5 ½"  size booklet and a jumbo 11" x 8 ½" size for sale!  I even left a blank page that I will do an unique sketch on as well, so I will be drawing sketches in the books up until the con. Also I will have a few left blank so that I can take requests on as well, so if there was anything you ever wanted to see sketched up in my style for a super cheap price, now's the time to take advantage of that. If you're in the area you should totally check out the con!

So I have 8 days left to get my graphic novel LENZ backed on Kickstarter.com. The project is over 30% funded so I'm doing my best to get the word out myself. I could use all the help I can get in terms of pledges and getting the word out. Hell If I could find 2000 people to pledge $1, then that's $2000! Every little bit helps. If you pledge even one or two dollars that adds up. So pledge, and if you can't do that then pass the link along to a friend. :w00t!:

I've been working on my graphic novel LENZ for the last 2 years. I haven't been able to devote as much time as I want as I still have to make money, but I might be able to get it funded on kickstarter. I have made a project so go check it out! Pass it on to fiends! I have really cool prizes for my backers that include original art done by me so you might want to back the project as well :D

Commissions still open!

My basic rates

8 ½" X 11 ½" black & white pencil drawing  $35

8 ½" X 11 ½" Line art inks on Strathmore Smooth  $25
11" X 17" Line art inks on Strathmore Smooth page $40

8 ½" X 11 ½" watercolor on cold press arches paper $100
11" X 17" watercolor on cold press arches paper  $150

My standard prices are my prices and I feel they are fair due to the amount of work I put into each work. I am not willing to be haggled down in price, as I do this for a living and need to cover materials (which the price does include shipping inside the U.S.), and time dedicated to commissions. However these are just my baseline prices so feel free to inquire about anything else you might want me to do such as design work or an OC and we can negotiate a fair price. I am always more than willing to open a productive dialogue about potential commission work.

If you wish to commission me for a piece or pieces you may message me on Deviant Art with the word ( commission ) in the subject line. I'm on DA everyday so I should be back to you pretty quick, barring any sort of emergency.

I only accept payment through pay pal. I will not start any commission unless I get half of the commission price up front, and I will only ship the completed piece once I have the rest of the payment for said work. If I can't finish a commission or start it due unforeseen circumstances I will return the half payment to the client.

Lets see what you want me to do!

So this this last Saturday was about the weirdest night of my life. Some friends and I went to Casa Bonita which was a surreal experience in itself and what I would have written this journal entry about if not for the events that happened afterwards. So after we left Casa Bonita (that place is the fucking worst BTW), Joel, his wife Gabi and I get into their car and jump on to I-25 heading back to Aurora. Now it's 5 lanes of 70mph+ traffic and it's busy as shit. We notice this girl, maybe in her early 20's running along the shoulder of the highway…before we can ask WTF?  She literally runs in front of our car about 20 yards in front of us! We come to a screeching halt  to not hit her . She doesn't even skip a beat and then runs into the next lane and almost gets hit by another car. She then starts zig zagging back and fourth so we try to drive past her and she then makes b-line to run back in front of us so we slam on the breaks again, this time we get rear ended by a car behind us. She then runs to the farthest left lane and gets leveled by a 4 door blue Toyota Tundra that was going at least 70 mph! Worst fucking thing I have ever seen in my life, by far! It hit her so hard, that it literally knocked her out of her shoes. She then somehow got up and started yelling something and then collapsed. By then we were on the phone to the police and somehow people made a barricade so that traffic didn't run over her or the people who were trying to help her until the police and ambulance arrived. I don't know how there wasn't a 50 car pile up so that I guess was a small miracle in itself. The way that situation was going it could have been much, much worse! We had to fill out statements and such for the next hour and a half and surprisingly our car and two others were the only other collisions that happened. I don't know if the girl lived or not because I, nor Joel and Gabi have been able to find any information on it. All we could find was that the night of I-25 was closed down after the accident. Just strange.

Anyhow on a lighter note I guess it's Street Fighter's 25th anniversary so I think I'm going to start doing some fan art for it. I think I want to do every Street Fighter character that they have ever created since the original Streetfighter through Super Street Fighter IV (I'm not sure I'll do the characters from EX…we'll see how I feel! Lol). Should be fun! :D

Just a reminder for anyone who is in the Denver area that I will be apart of the Denver Raw Artist's show ACTIVATE on February 2nd. If you want to buy a ticket for the show (and help me out ;) lol) you can do so here www.rawartists.org/denver/acti…. If you do just make sure you let them know you are buying for me so I meet my ticket quota. XD

As for my regular peeps on Deviant Art sorry I have been M.I.A. recently. I wanted all new pieces to debut at the show so I've been busy painting. I'll have at least 5 new paintings so that will be good. but I want to wait till after the show before I post them. So my homies on Deviant Art will have to wait a bit but you all can hang for a bit...right?

Well what can I say? 2011 has been an interesting year for a lot of reasons I suppose. I'm pretty sure I won't be able to touch on all of what happened in this journal so I'm not going to try, but there are for sure some things that stick out. I did my first comic convention as a guest creator at Denver Comic Fest an met amazing artists and just had a friggen blast so that is probably the most interesting experience for me. I have :iconkevingentilcore: to thank for letting me know about the show and sharing the table. We were so jam packed together it was like a Wookie and a Sasquatch crammed into Fiat mini. Actually sound like a great tv show!  Hopefully I get to do another one sometime in the near future.

Mainly I've had a weird feeling all year as it has finally come up on the 10 year mark since I graduated from Beloit College on December 19th 2001. I got what I fondly refer to as a "bonus" semester as I didn't graduate in the spring of 2001 like I was supposed to. I was mad at the time, but that last semester was a sublime entry in the time fog of my mind. I took classes like "Philosophy of Art" and  "Film Noir", you know shit that will never help you in real life but is a blast to learn. That last semester was
nothing short of fantastic before I was kicked out into the waist land of suck that I have roamed for these last 10 years. Not that this last 10 years haven't had it's moments, but nothing will compare to those 4 and a half years I spent in the Beloit Bubble. When ever I talk to my college friends it's like we haven skipped a beat, and you feel like you are going to see them just down the hall, even thought I haven't seen some of them for 10 years now.

In some respects I guess I've been waiting for this landmark. I point to gage what I have done and what I now want to do.  I think for the most part I have been trying to cultivate and consume ideas, techniques, and styles in order to define my own style. Mainly I've been trying to figure out what I want to do with my work. After notions from friends and family or other perceived pressures on what to do with my work I have come to a conclusion. I need to do what I want to do with my work. Not as profound a statement as one might hope to reach in 10 years but it's the one that works for me, or at the very least it the notion I have. An art mercenary with services that are available for hire at my discretion…yeah I like the ring to that.

Here is to 2012. I'm kicking off the year with an art show on Feb. 2nd for Denver Raw Artists. I'm excited for that as I haven't been in a show in literally 10 years. Should be a good way to kick things off. If you are in the Denver area and want to go just let me know.

I hope all my friends out there have a great new years eve and a prosperous new year!

P.S. Maybe I should call this Journal "10" as that seems to pop up a lot in this entry :p

Hey :iconstaceyowens:'s book STACEYTRON: Mass Perceptron  is out and everybody should go pick up a copy.  Not only is it full of great art and artists but it also has a work by yours truly in it as well…Hey I gotta toot my own horn once in a while since no one else is going to do it! ;P

If any of you out there ever watched :iconstaceyowens: 's work you are well aware of her emergence, spreading her brand of style and philosophy, and subsequent disappearance from the scene, only to suddenly re-emerge for a last update of the completion of her book and fair wells before her swan song into oblivion. Although the mystery of it all is exquisitely spectacular, I find myself hoping that phenomenon like that transpires again soon…or that there is a second book, it would be fun to revisit that character again :D At any rate we all know that Dtron will always hold down the mutha fucking fort so worry not folks I won't ever leave ya. It might be my only talent :D
